Omisore still in APC, Osun elders’ caucus dismisses defection rumours

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders’ Caucus (Igbimo Agba) in Osun State on Tuesday dismissed rumours that former National Secretary and governorship aspirant, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has defected from the party.

Speaking after the caucus’ statutory monthly meeting in Ilobu, former House of Representatives member, Hon. Israel Famurewa, said Omisore’s presence at the meeting debunked the defection claims.

“Seeing is believing. Senator Omisore is here at the meeting, and that is enough to debunk the rumour that he has left the party. What is circulating on social media is just a rumour,” Famurewa said.

Famurewa, who heads Omisore’s campaign organisation, also denied claims that recent defections by some members of the group were carried out on the former senator’s directive.

He said some members may have left to pursue their political ambitions but insisted Omisore neither directed nor encouraged anyone to quit the APC.

Chairman of the APC Elders’ Caucus in Osun State, Engr. Sola Akinwumi, said Omisore attended the meeting in his capacity as a member of the caucus, adding that the gathering was part of its regular monthly consultations.

Akinwumi urged party supporters to participate in the forthcoming governorship election, vote for the APC and protect their votes against intimidation.
