Ondo APC backs INEC’s revised timetable, says it fair, realistic, people-centred

By Boye Oyeyemi

The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described INEC’s revised 2027 election timetable as fair, realistic and beneficial to all political parties.

This was disclosed by the party’s Media and Publicity Director, Steve Otaloro, during a question-and-answer session with journalists in Akure.

At the event, Otaloro defended the electoral body’s schedule and dismissed criticisms trailing the announcement.

According to him, the introduction of digital membership registers represents a progressive reform capable of improving transparency, strengthening party discipline and reducing disputes arising from manipulated party registers during primaries.

He added that the timetable was released early enough to allow political parties have adequate time to comply with regulatory requirements, stressing that organised parties should have no difficulty maintaining updated membership databases and conducting credible primaries.

The spokesman also dismissed clqims stating that the 2027 electoral timetable was designed to favour President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party, terming it as speculative and lacking evidence.

In addition, he stressed that INEC operates within constitutional guidelines and its decisions are administrative rather than partisan, warning that the politicising of electoral procedures could weaken public trust in democratic institutions.

Otaloro maintained that electoral victories are determined by governance performance, noting that ongoing economic and institutional reforms under Tinubu’s administration would ultimately shape the decisions of voters ahead of the 2027 general elections.
