Ondo APC governorship aspirant to appear before EFCC

A gubernatorial aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Wale Akinterinwa, has announced his intention to attend an invitation from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday.

Akinterinwa, who vied for the party’s gubernatorial ticket alongside 15 others last Saturday, has been summoned by the anti-graft agency regarding allegations of financial misappropriation.

The allegations against the gubernatorial aspirant stem from his tenure as the Commissioner for Finance during the administration of the late governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Reports suggest that the EFCC is probing him for purportedly mishandling substantial sums of money, running into billions of Naira.

However, initial reports indicated that Akinterinwa had been previously invited by the EFCC to address these allegations, but had cited being “too busy” to comply.

In a statement posted via his verified social media handle on Thursday, Akinterinwa affirmed his commitment to attending the EFCC’s invitation, expressing confidence in the agency’s ability to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure justice prevails.

The unfolding saga underscores the growing scrutiny on financial accountability within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly as the country navigates issues of corruption and governance integrity.
