Ondo court remands trio for alleged conspiracy, kidnap attempt

A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Akure has ordered the remand of three men at the Olokuta Correctional Centre for allegedly attempting to kidnap a woman in Akoko, Ondo State.

The defendants, Bankole Kayode (32), Akande Michael (33), and Abu Dada (31), were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempted kidnapping.

Prosecuting counsel, I.O. Osobu, told the court that the suspects attempted to abduct Mrs. Julianah Shaba on May 12, 2025, around 1:00 a.m. at her residence on Olorunsogo Street, Iboropa-Akoko, in Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

The charge sheet stated that the offence contravened Section 4 of the Ondo State Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Abduction Law, 2010.

The pleas of the defendants were not taken during the proceedings.

Osobu requested their remand pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), while defence counsel, Akinde Ayomide, opposed the motion, arguing there was no basis for the detention.

Chief Magistrate Damilola Sekoni ordered the remand of the accused and directed that the case file be duplicated and sent to the DPP for advice. The matter was adjourned to September 1, 2025, for mention.
