The Ondo and Edo State police commands have launched a joint clearance operation along the Ondo-Edo border to dislodge criminal elements and destroy their suspected hideouts in the area.
The operation, which began on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, is being led by the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, in collaboration with his Edo counterpart, CP Patrick Daaor.
The police said the exercise covers Ala, Ifon, Okelusi and adjoining communities, which have been identified as areas requiring intensified security operations.
According to the Ondo State Command, tactical teams from both commands are carrying out intelligence-driven patrols, coordinated raids and surveillance operations as part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities along the border.
The operation is also aimed at preventing criminals from using the inter-state corridor to move between Ondo and Edo states or establish operational bases within the border communities.
The police said the joint exercise was part of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu’s strategy of strengthening inter-command cooperation, intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention.
Ohagwu urged residents, community leaders and other stakeholders to remain vigilant and promptly provide the police with credible information that could aid the identification and arrest of suspected criminals.
The command said the operation would continue until its objectives are achieved, assuring residents that efforts would be sustained to make the Ondo-Edo border corridor safer and less attractive to criminal elements.
