TICC spokesperson withdraws remarks against Governor Okpebholo

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

The spokesperson for the Imole Campaign Council (TICC), Pelumi Olajengbesi, has withdrawn his earlier remarks against the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, saying political disagreements should not prevent respect for public institutions and the offices people occupy.

It would be recalled that Okpebholo made the remarks during an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Osun State, where he mocked Governor Ademola Adeleke over his penchant for dancing.

However, Olajengbesi, in a statement, said he withdrew his earlier comments, which might have appeared disrespectful to the Edo governor.

“I personally withdraw my earlier remarks that may have appeared disrespectful to the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo,” he said.

Olajengbesi, however, said Okpebholo conducted himself in what he described as an “uncharitable manner” during his visit to Osun for the election.

“But the election is now over. Going forward, I would respectfully advise the Governor to speak more through his media aides and reduce the activities of the two overzealous cheerleaders around him who are constantly shouting, hyping and hailing him,” he said.

He said several eminent Nigerians and respected members of the APC were in Osun during the election and worked for their party without publicly disrespecting Adeleke or diminishing the dignity of his office.

“I therefore withdraw any statement that may have appeared unduly insulting or disrespectful. Political disagreements should never prevent us from respecting public institutions and the offices people occupy,” he added.
