Ondo farmer remanded for allegedly killing colleague with machete

By Boye Oyeyemi –
An Akure Chief Magistrate Court has ordered the remand of a farmer, Temitope Odunleye, at the Olokuta Correctional Facility for allegedly killing his colleague, Confidence David, during a boundary dispute at Mariwo Farm Area in the Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The court heard that the incident occurred on August 11, 2025, when Odunleye reportedly attacked the victim with a machete during an argument over farmland.
Security operatives from the Ondo State Security Network, also known as Amotekun, were said to have responded swiftly after receiving a distress call from a community leader.
“At about 12:30 pm, a distress call was received by Chief Toye Ojo, the Asamo of Iron Town, from the Iron community regarding a suspected murder. Officers and men of Amotekun responded immediately, moving to the farmland with eyewitnesses.
After a preliminary investigation at the Ifedore office, the suspect was moved to the headquarters in Akure along with eyewitnesses, while investigations into accomplices continue,” the source said.
The prosecution, led by Dr O.F. Akeredolu, told the court that Odunleye unlawfully killed the victim and urged the magistrate to remand him pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The formal charge accused Odunleye of contravening Section 316 and being punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
The Chief Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted the prosecution’s request and ordered the defendant to remain in custody at Olokuta Correctional Facility, while the case was adjourned until September 15, 2025.
