Ondo government sacks LGAs/LCDAs caretaker chairmen, vice

The Ondo state government has sacked the caretaker committee members for the 18 Local Government Areas and the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state, following a court order.
The House of Assembly had appointed the interim management committees for the LGAs and the LCDAs in November 2023.
However, a memo from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs dated January 2, 2024 said the heads of local government administrations should take over the councils immediately.
The memo, signed by Alonge Adewale on behalf of the permanent secretary, said, “The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has learnt that some individuals in the former positions of Caretaker Committee members for Local Government (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State are still acting in that capacity, despite their suspension by a Court of competent jurisdiction.
“Therefore, I have been directed to request the Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs) in all the LGAs/LCDAs to take charge of their respective Local Government Areas/LCDAs in an acting role until all Legal matters related to this subject are resolved.
“Also, I have been instructed to request all HOLGAs to recover all assets and properties of the LGAs/LCDAs from these former Caretaker Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen and other members and to keep them safely within their respective Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
“Please, give this letter the urgent attention it deserves.”
