Wife of Ondo State governor and aspirant in All Progressives Congress (APC) for Imo West senatorial primary election, Mrs Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, was on Saturday chased out of the APC secretariat in Imo State.
The violence began when Mrs Akeredolu’s followers started arguing that they must be allowed to vote.
While security officers were on the ground, there was panic as newsmen and delegates struggled to escape for safety
Policemen, however, chased the Ondo first lady and her followers out of the premises to continue their protest.
Speaking to newsmen at the secretariat, Mrs Akeredolu disclosed that the Imo State chapter of the APC had approved the consensus option but she insisted on delegates election.
She said: “I am insisting that we must go by delegates election. I cannot waste time and resources campaigning only to be told that candidates would emerge by consensus. We must vote and if I lose gallantly, I will accept the result.”
Betty Akeredolu is from Imo State and she had earlier directed her followers to the party secretariat to revolt against the consensus option approved by the Imo APC in choosing its candidate for the 2023 state’s poll.
