Ondo L-PRES trains 100 livestock farmers on fodder production

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project has trained 100 livestock farmers on improved fodder production techniques to boost output and promote commercial livestock farming.

The State Project Coordinator, Mr Olufemi Adeogun, disclosed this on Tuesday during a two-day capacity-building programme held in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore Local Government Area.

Adeogun said the beneficiaries, drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state, were selected as lead farmers who would, in turn, train others in their respective communities.

He explained that the programme focused on improving feed availability through fodder cultivation, hay and silage production, hydroponic methods and proper treatment of crop residues.

According to him, the initiative is designed to tackle seasonal feed shortages, rising costs of commercial feed and climate-related challenges affecting livestock productivity.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Forestry, Engr. Leye Akinola, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Foluke Daramola, commended the project, saying it would enhance feed quality and farmers’ incomes.

Stakeholders, including the leadership of pig, sheep and goat farmers’ associations in the state, also lauded the intervention, expressing optimism that it would strengthen livestock production across Ondo State.
