Ondo LG backs finance commissioner, alleges plot to smear image

By Boye Oyeyemi –
The leadership of Owo Local Government Area in Ondo State has passed a vote of confidence on the state Commissioner for Finance, Mrs Omowumi Isaac, over what it described as attempts by some party members to tarnish her image.
The resolution was reached by the Executive, Legislative, and Supervisory Councils, alongside special advisers, in a statement signed by the council chairman, Hon. Ibrahim Hameed, on behalf of 20 senior local government officials.
The council said the decision followed concerns raised by stakeholders, community leaders, and youths over an alleged campaign of blackmail targeted at the commissioner.
It described the development as surprising and regrettable, adding that the actions of a few individuals did not reflect the collective interest of the people of Owo.
According to the statement, the move was particularly disturbing given Isaac’s contributions to governance and her role as a representative of Owo in the administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
The council stressed that it dissociated itself from any plot capable of undermining the political goodwill currently enjoyed by the local government under the present administration.
It noted that the vote of confidence followed a solidarity walk held on February 1, 2026, during which residents reportedly marched across the 11 wards of the local government in support of the commissioner.
Reaffirming its trust in Isaac, the council said her performance in office had been marked by prudence, transparency, and accountability, while pledging continued support for the Aiyedatiwa administration and its development agenda.
