Ondo moves to tackle fake news

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Government has outlined fresh initiatives to combat fake news and promote ethical values across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, disclosed this in a statement obtained by WESTERN POST, stressing that the government is working on a mobile application designed to curb misinformation and conduct opinion polls.

Ajanaku explained that the campaign, which will actively involve market women, students, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants and non-governmental organisations, will ensure a statewide moral rebirth.

He revealed that outstanding indigenes of Ondo who have distinguished themselves in various fields will soon be unveiled as Omoluabi Ambassadors to serve as role models for others.

“When the time comes for unveiling, everyone will know them,” he assured.

The Commissioner also confirmed the state’s approval of a new state-of-the-art TV transmitter for OSRC Television, a move expected to enhance the station’s coverage and fast-track its inclusion on DSTV.

According to him, ad hoc media officers will be deployed to all 203 wards in Ondo State to serve as grassroots correspondents, ensuring effective communication between the government and the people while promoting accurate news dissemination.

Ajanaku reaffirmed that the vision of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, encapsulated in the OUR EASE agenda, is already making an impact across the state.
