EPL: Arsenal win at Old Trafford as Chelsea held at Stamford Bridge

Arsenal started their 2025/26 English Premier League campaign on a high on Sunday, defeating Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

The two Premiership giants were separated by a Riccardo Calafiori strike, which came as early as the 13th minute of the encounter.

The Arsenal defender headed home after benefitting from a mistake by United’s goalkeeper, Altay Bayindir, who misjudged Declan Rice’s corner kick.

Arsenal had much defending to do for most of the game as the Red Devils pressed for an equaliser, but the Gunners held firm until the final whistle.

Earlier, in another matchday one fixture, neither Chelsea nor Crystal Palace could find the breakthrough at Stamford Bridge, as the tie ended goalless.

Nottingham Forest got the better of Brentford with a convincing 3-1 victory.

Chris Wood scored twice, while Dan Ndloye added one for the hosts. Igo Thiago netted Brentford’s consolatory goal from the penalty spot.
