By Boye Oyeyemi –
The Ondo State Police Command has recovered a stolen truck and arrested five members of an armed robbery gang that attacked a private company in Akure.
In a statement on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, said the arrests followed months of investigation by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
The robbery occurred on February 8, 2023, when gunmen invaded Dollar Boys Global Investment at Okuta, Elerinla, Akure. The attackers overpowered and injured security guards before escaping with a white DAF truck (registration number T94121, chassis number XLRTE85COF572200) and other valuables.
Police traced the stolen truck to Brinni Kudi in Jigawa State, where one suspect was arrested. Further operations led to additional arrests in Rimi Gado and Shanono LGAs of Kano State, and finally to Dogodaji House in Sokoto State, where two more suspects were apprehended and the vehicle recovered.
Preliminary investigations showed the gang attempted to disguise the truck by altering its physical structure and identification details to avoid detection.
“No offender who commits a crime in Ondo State will escape justice, no matter how far they flee or how deeply they try to cover their tracks,” the police spokesperson stated.
The police commended the operatives for their persistence and urged the public to remain vigilant, promising continued efforts to protect lives and property.
The Command also called on residents to report suspicious activities promptly to help prevent crime and ensure swift response by security forces.
