Ondo police report major breakthroughs, arrest over 2,500 suspects in 2025

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Police Command has announced significant gains in crime-fighting and public safety in 2025, following intelligence-led operations, enhanced patrols, and sustained community engagement across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, attributed the successes to the support of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Inspector-General of Police, and the cooperation of residents, security agencies, and the media.

Key operations led to the arrest of suspects linked to high-profile crimes, including the killing of two Adekunle Ajasin University students, illegal arms manufacturing, and syndicates involved in human trafficking and cultism.

The Tactical Intelligence Response Squad rescued 40 trafficked Ghanaian nationals in Akure and dismantled a sex-trafficking ring, while the voluntary surrender of cultists resulted in the recovery of 36 firearms, including locally fabricated weapons.

Over 300 suspects involved in kidnapping, armed robbery, cult-related violence, and sexual offences were apprehended, with recovered exhibits including firearms, vehicles, motorcycles, and stolen property.

The command also ensured peaceful celebrations during major festivals, including the Ogun Festival in Ondo Town and the Igogo Festival in Owo, and brokered reconciliation between rival cult groups in Ondo City, preventing reprisal attacks and restoring community trust.

CP Lawal highlighted proactive interventions to protect vulnerable citizens, including the rescue of children from trafficking syndicates, the dismantling of a baby factory in Ore, and the handling of gender-based violence cases, with victims receiving medical and psychological support.

Summing up the year, the commissioner said more than 2,500 suspects were arrested, with 105 firearms and 92 vehicles recovered.

He urged continued public cooperation, stressing that collective efforts have strengthened security and created a safer environment across Ondo State.
