The Ondo State Government has commenced the distribution of relief materials and financial assistance to more than 7,000 residents affected by rainstorms and fire outbreaks across the state.

The intervention is aimed at helping affected households and traders recover from losses incurred when the disasters damaged their homes, businesses and sources of livelihood.

The exercise was launched in Akure on Thursday, according to a statement issued on Friday by John Akinduro, spokesperson for the Deputy Governor, Dr. Olayide Adelami.

Adelami, who chairs the Ondo State Emergency Management Agency (ODSEMA), said the programme would cover affected residents across the state’s three senatorial districts, with beneficiaries drawn from several local government areas.

He added that traders who lost goods and property in the fires that razed parts of Ore Market on August 12 and August 30, 2026, would also benefit from the financial assistance.

The deputy governor said the intervention reflected the government’s commitment to supporting disaster victims and helping them rebuild their lives, in line with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s Our Ease Agenda, which prioritises residents’ welfare.

He commended ODSEMA officials for assessing the damage and coordinating the distribution, while urging residents to observe safety precautions and report emergencies promptly to minimise losses.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Funmi Dapo-Filani, welcomed the intervention, saying it would help affected residents rebuild their lives, while the Onirese of Irese, Oba Ahmed Saka, expressed appreciation to the state government for supporting rainstorm victims in his community.
