The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, has applauded Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for approving severance allowances for former lawmakers who served in the seventh, eighth and ninth assemblies.
Oladiji said the gesture, which also covers former chairmen and members of the House of Assembly Service Commission, reflected the governor’s commitment to the welfare of those who had served the state through the legislature.
The speaker, in a statement issued in Akure on Monday, said the payment would provide a deserved benefit to the former lawmakers after their years of public service.
He also commended Aiyedatiwa for approving the recruitment of additional workers for the assembly, noting that the move would strengthen its workforce and improve legislative operations.
Oladiji said the decisions were timely, stressing that improved welfare and adequate manpower were essential to the effective functioning of the legislature and the delivery of quality service to the people.
The speaker further praised the governor’s handling of the recent crisis in the assembly, saying his approach demonstrated maturity and helped sustain peace and stability among the three arms of government.
Furthermore, Oladiji pledged the assembly’s continued support for cooperation with the executive while maintaining its constitutional independence and responsibilities.
He concluded his statement by thanking Aiyedatiwa for his style of leadership and continued support, expressing confidence that the cordial relationship between both arms of government would translate into better governance and improved welfare for Ondo residents.
