One injured, property destroyed in Ilorin gas explosion

A gas explosion in Ilorin, Kwara State capital on Tuesday night destroyed property worth N5 million, while one person was injured.
The incident occurred at about 7.30pm at Baba Soja junction along Alagbado Specialist Hospital road, Okelele, Ilorin.
WesternPost gathered that the explosion occurred at a gas retail shop in the area.
The resultant fire from the explosion consumed goods in three shops in the vicinity with property and money estimated at N5m lost.
A woman said to be the wife of the owner of the gas retail shop sustained injuries and was rushed to a nearby Fatimah Hospital for treatment.
It was gathered that the woman was later moved to another hospital for comprehensive treatment.
A victim of the gas explosion who sells children wares in one of the shops, Mrs Bashirat Bashar said she lost goods worth over N2.5 million.
“I just filled my shop with goods worth over N2.5 million on Monday in preparation for Sallah sales. All the goods were burnt by the fire,” Mrs Bashar lamented.
It was learnt that the owner of the gas retail shop lost N2 million cash to the incident.
“The wife of the gas retail shop’s owner sustained injuries during her attempt to retrieve the N2 million that her husband kept in the shop. The money is meant for purchase of goods the following day (Wednesday),” a source said.
