One killed, several injured as trailer rams into APC campaign walk in Osun

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), identified as Ahmed Abdulrasak, has been confirmed dead after a trailer reportedly rammed into participants during a campaign walk in Ede, Osun State.

The incident occurred on Wednesday at Oke Gada, Ede, during a “Walk for AMBO Victory” organised in preparation for the inauguration of APC unit canvassers ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

It was gathered that Abdulrasak was among the participants in the procession when the trailer crashed into the crowd.

He later died from injuries sustained in the accident and was buried in Ede on Wednesday. Other victims who sustained varying degrees of injuries in the accident are receiving treatment in different hospitals.

The Osun APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, confirmed the incident and said the party had constituted a team to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

Speaking after a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, the running mate to the APC governorship candidate, Benjamin Adereti, called for a thorough investigation into the incident.

“We are still trying to unravel the reason behind this. The way the incident happened looked like the truck deliberately rammed into our party members in Ede while they were campaigning. I want to call on the security agencies in Osun and Nigeria to carry out a thorough investigation into the immediate and remote causes of this incident,” he said.

“I commiserate with the family of Ahmed Abdulrasak over this unfortunate incident. May God console the family. We all know the pain of losing a child,” Adereti added.
