Organisers announce new date for Southwest Summit

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Steering Committee of the Southwest Citizen–Government Engagement Summit has shifted the date of the event from October 9–10 to October 29–30, 2025, citing the need for wider consultations and improved logistics.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Steering Committee, Dr Akin Onigbinde (SAN), the committee said the postponement was to ensure that the summit provides a more meaningful and inclusive platform for dialogue between citizens and government across the region.

The summit, themed “Strengthening Democracy Through Dialogue: Assessing Progress, Charting the Future”, will still be held at the International Conference Centre (The Dome), Akure, Ondo State, with Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa as Chief Host.

Dr Onigbinde explained that the additional time would enable organisers to conduct comprehensive consultations with relevant ministries, agencies, and stakeholders and make adequate logistical arrangements that would support substantive discussions.

He apologised for any inconvenience the change might cause, assuring participants that the decision was made in the overall interest of delivering a productive and impactful engagement.

The Southwest Summit is a non-partisan platform convened by Afenifere, with technical support from the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).
