Orji Kalu tackles Governor Otti over performance, says APC will fight for victory in Abia elections

Former Abia State governor and Senator representing Abia North, Orji Uzor Kalu, has criticised Governor Alex Otti’s performance in office, saying the All Progressives Congress (APC) is preparing to challenge and win future elections in the state.

Kalu, in a statement on Tuesday, accused Otti of resorting to personal attacks instead of focusing on governance, following criticism from the governor over Kalu’s renewed commitment to strengthening the APC in Abia ahead of the 2027 elections.

The senator said his open declaration of loyalty to the APC and support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election should not be interpreted as hostility, but as a legitimate exercise of democratic rights. He described Otti’s reaction as politically driven and reflective of insecurity.

According to Kalu, the APC remains determined to expand its influence in Abia and present a strong governorship candidate in 2027. He argued that politics is about competition and accountability, not entitlement, adding that opposition parties have a responsibility to challenge those in power.

Kalu also accused the Otti-led administration of deflecting attention from governance issues, urging the governor to focus on delivering tangible results in critical areas such as healthcare, youth employment and security.

He further maintained that the APC’s growing momentum in Abia was responsible for the governor’s reaction, insisting that many residents are dissatisfied with what he described as unfulfilled promises by the current administration.

Reaffirming his commitment to the APC, Kalu said he would continue to mobilise support for the party through lawful and democratic means, stressing that his political engagement is driven by what he described as a commitment to Abia State’s development and Nigeria’s unity.

The senator advised Governor Otti to avoid personal confrontations and concentrate on governance, noting that Abians would ultimately assess performance at the polls.
