Oseni seeks justice after alleged attack on campaign convoy in Ibadan

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has called on security agencies to investigate an alleged attack on his campaign convoy at Agbaje Market in Ibadan North-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when Oseni and members of his campaign team visited market associations in Agbaje, Ayeye and Idikan as part of consultations ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, armed political thugs allegedly stormed the venue while Oseni was addressing traders and opened fire, forcing traders, supporters and residents to flee.
Ayodele said some vehicles in the campaign convoy, including a security utility vehicle, were hit by bullets, damaging their windshields. Security operatives attached to the campaign team reportedly moved in to contain the situation and facilitate the safe evacuation of Oseni, members of his entourage and supporters.
Oseni, who is chairman of the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, thanked God that no casualty was recorded and commended the security personnel for their intervention. He described the incident as an assault on his campaign, as well as a threat to citizens’ right to participate in political activities.
Oseni urged his supporters not to retaliate, while appealing to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other relevant agencies to identify those responsible and ensure they face the law.
The senator affirmed that the incident would not stop his consultations across Oyo South, insisting that politics should be centred on ideas, records and the ability to serve the people rather than violence and intimidation.
“No attack, intimidation or destruction of campaign materials can determine the choice of the people. At the end of the day, it is the people who will decide. Our duty is to present our records and our vision to them, and their decision must be respected,” he said.
