Influential attacking players Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman will not be available for Nigeria’s forthcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Poland on June 3 before taking on Portugal on June 10, 2026, as part of preparations for future international assignments, including the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and other key competitions.

Head coach Eric Chelle confirmed that Osimhen and Lookman will miss the matches for different reasons. The duo, regarded as two of Nigeria’s most important attacking players, have been left out of the squad for the upcoming fixtures.

According to Chelle, Osimhen’s absence is linked to developments surrounding his club future, with the striker currently weighing options ahead of a possible transfer move during the summer window.

Lookman, on the other hand, will miss the friendlies due to physical fatigue following a demanding season with his club. The winger is expected to use the period to rest and recover ahead of the new campaign.

Chelle disclosed the development after Nigeria secured a 3-0 victory over Jamaica in the final of the Unity Cup in London on Saturday. The triumph saw the Super Eagles retain the tournament title for a fourth consecutive time.

The Super Eagles enjoyed an impressive run throughout the competition, defeating Zimbabwe 2-0 in the semi-final before producing another dominant display against Jamaica in the final. The team’s performances have generated optimism among supporters about the direction of the national side under Chelle.

While the absence of Osimhen and Lookman will undoubtedly weaken the squad, it also offers an opportunity for other players to stake their claim for regular places in the team. The friendlies against Poland and Portugal are expected to provide a clearer indication of Nigeria’s progress and whether the momentum from the Unity Cup success can be sustained against two respected European opponents.
