The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct free, fair, and credible local government elections on February 22nd, 2025.

Speaking at the unveiling of the voting materials, OSSIEC Chairman Hashim Abioye emphasized that all political parties in the state have expressed interest in participating in the poll, noting that no political party has notified the commission of its decision not to participate.

Abioye said that all necessary arrangements have been made for the elections and that all relevant security agencies have been notified.

He urged politicians to prioritize peace, stressing the importance of their role in promoting a violence-free exercise.

The OSSIEC Chairman said, “For the first time, we have a voting cubicle that will allow two persons to vote at a time to reduce long queues. Our ballot boxes are ready, and the ballot papers are barcoded in a way that the ones meant for a Local Government cannot be used in another Local Government.”

“As I’m speaking to you now, all 18 registered political parties are participating. We have not heard of any political party withdrawing from the election. We have not received any communication to that effect, and that will not, in any way, hamper the process of the election.”

Speaking, the IPAC Chairman in the state, Mr. Victor Akande, appealed to residents to turn out this Saturday to vote for the candidates of their choice.

He said, “We advise every eligible voter to shun every form of electoral corruption and violence, as security officials will not condone anything that will unsettle the peace of Osun State. We implore everyone to ignore those who are bent on satisfying their personal interests at the detriment of the Osun populace in general. We maintain that the progress of Osun State is more important than the interest of any individual.”

All the political leaders were represented at the event except those of the PDP and APC.
