Osun 2026: Accord accuses APC of harbouring election hackers, party denies allegation

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of harbouring alleged election hackers at a hotel in Osogbo ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The party, in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, alleged that the hackers were brought into the state from Lagos and Abuja to compromise the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) digital system and manipulate election results.

Akande alleged that the suspected hackers had established an operational centre at the hotel to compromise INEC’s electronic system and upload fictitious results to the commission’s server.

The party called on security agencies to investigate the hotel and other suspected illegal centres to prevent activities capable of undermining the electoral process. It also urged INEC to strengthen its digital infrastructure and ICT security against potential cyber threats.

However, the APC dismissed the allegation as false and unfounded, describing it as an attempt to tarnish the party’s reputation ahead of the election.

The APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, told our correspondent in a telephone interview that the party had no reason to rig the election, citing the popularity of its governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. He described the allegation as a product of fear among Accord officials over an anticipated defeat.

Olabisi challenged Accord to report the matter to the police if it had evidence that the APC was harbouring hackers, describing the allegation as diversionary.

He said, “It is the fear of losing the election that is haunting the Accord Party functionaries who are peddling this false information. It should be disregarded and discredited, as there is no element of truth in it”.
