Ondo police begin statewide traffic law enforcement

The Ondo State Police Command has begun renewed enforcement of traffic laws across the state to curb road crashes, ease congestion and promote orderly use of roads.

The command said the exercise followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, and would involve intensified monitoring of motorists and other road users.

In a statement, the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the enforcement was aimed at protecting lives and property while ensuring compliance with existing traffic regulations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, urged motorists, commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists and transport unions to obey traffic signs and signals and avoid driving against traffic.

He also warned motorists against reckless driving, speeding, overloading, using mobile phones while driving, and operating unroadworthy or improperly registered vehicles.

Additionally, Ohagwu advised road users to carry valid vehicle and driver’s documents and respect police officers and other authorised traffic personnel deployed for the exercise.

The command said its personnel had been directed to conduct themselves professionally and within the law, warning that officers found engaging in extortion, harassment or other misconduct would face disciplinary action.

The police further urged residents to cooperate with the enforcement team and report any unprofessional conduct by officers through established channels, assuring the public that the exercise was intended to make roads across Ondo safer and more orderly.
