Increased federal allocation has improved infrastructure in Benue — Alia
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has attributed the renewed pace of infrastructure development and efforts to revive moribund industries in the state to increased federal allocations under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Alia said the additional resources had provided his administration with greater fiscal space to execute capital projects, pay salaries and pensions, strengthen infrastructure and revive economic assets such as the Taraku Mills in Gwer East Local Government Area.
The governor spoke on Friday during a media interaction with members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The delegation, comprising more than 40 editors and journalists, inspected major Federal and Benue State government projects across the state as part of a nationwide assessment of infrastructure and development projects under the Tinubu administration.
“The increased Federal Allocation has given us more fiscal space to do some of the things that we could not do before. We are using the resources responsibly to revive industries, build roads and provide infrastructure that will directly impact the lives of our people,” Alia was quoted to have said in a statement on Saturday by Tunde Rahman, Director, Media and Publicity Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Team.
The governor said the increased allocations had strengthened the state’s capacity to tackle its infrastructure deficit while investing in projects designed to stimulate economic growth, create jobs and improve livelihoods.
He singled out the ongoing rehabilitation of Taraku Mills as a major component of his administration’s efforts to restore Benue’s industrial base and harness its agricultural potential.
Established in 1989 during the administration of the late Governor Aper Aku, Taraku Mills was once a major agro-processing facility producing vegetable oil, animal feeds and other agro-allied products.
