Osun 2026: APC disqualifies Omisore, six others ahead of governorship primary
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has disqualified its former National Secretary, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and six other aspirants from participating in the forthcoming governorship primary in Osun State.
Discoverer Nigeria reports that the Screening Committee, chaired by Chief Obinna Uzoh, Esq., concluded its assignment on December 4, 2025, at Amor Hotel, Katampe, Abuja, citing failure to meet mandatory nomination requirements as the basis for the disqualifications.

According to the committee, the affected aspirants—Sen. Iyiola Omisore, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare—did not provide evidence of sponsorship by at least five fully registered and financially up-to-date party members from each Local Government Area in Osun State, as stipulated in Articles 9.3(i) and 31.2(ii) of the APC Constitution and Paragraph 6(c) of the party’s guidelines.

Only two aspirants, Mulikat Abiola Jimoh and Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, were cleared to contest the primary.

The committee said its action followed a petition by the Osun APC Renewal Group alleging irregularities in the nomination process of some aspirants.

The panel further stated that to avoid selective implementation of the petition, all nine aspirants were subjected to the same level of scrutiny, which resulted in the mass disqualification.
The decision, which is subject to ratification by the National Working Committee (NWC), has unsettled the Osun APC. Associates of the disqualified aspirants described the move as “politically motivated” and vowed to challenge it.
Party insiders say an emergency meeting of the affected aspirants is underway, with strong indications that formal appeals will be filed before the NWC.
The APC governorship primary is expected to be held on December 13, 2025, with the eventual candidate to face incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, who recently left the PDP and is searching for a new platform ahead of the 2026 election.
