Osun 2026 election: APC warns aspirants, supporters against misconduct

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo

As the 2026 governorship election draws near, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has cautioned its members against actions that could cause internal division and undermine party unity.

State Chairman of the party, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, gave the warning during a meeting with reinstated local government chairmen and APC leaders from across the state. The gathering took place at the party’s secretariat along Osogbo-Gbongan Road in Osogbo.

Lawal expressed concern over rising tensions stirred by supporters of various aspirants, stating that the party would not tolerate any conduct capable of weakening its cohesion. He declared that no party executive, at any level—unit, ward, local government, senatorial, or national—was permitted to coordinate for any governorship aspirant.

“There is a need to inject sanity into our party. The altercations among members of the same political family, all in the name of promoting their preferred candidates, are worrisome and undignified,” Lawal said.

He urged those already involved in such activities to reflect on their actions and desist immediately, warning that disciplinary action would be taken against members who flout the party’s directive.

Lawal also clarified that the party has not endorsed any candidate nor released official guidelines for the governorship election, assuring that such information would be transparently shared when ready.

He appealed to aspirants to rein in their supporters and encourage them to adhere strictly to party rules, emphasizing that disorderly behavior by overzealous loyalists could harm their principals’ chances.

“The rising noise is causing unnecessary disaffection within the party. No one is above the party, and whoever defies this directive will face sanctions. The supremacy of the party is not negotiable,” Lawal stated.
