Anambra, Lagos top list of states with highest examination malpractices – JAMB Registrar

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, has revealed that Anambra and Lagos recorded the highest number of examination malpractice cases during the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, Oloyede disclosed that 80 suspects are currently under investigation by the police for various offenses, including impersonation, biometric manipulation, and possession of prohibited items during the exam.
He noted that JAMB detected a rise in sophisticated fraud methods such as candidates merging their thumbprints with impersonators during registration, often in connivance with Computer-Based Test (CBT) centre officials. Some also attempted to switch identities during the examination itself.
Anambra State topped the list with 14 suspects—13 for impersonation and one for a mismatched identification photo. Lagos followed with nine suspects involved in impersonation, spying, and the illegal use of mobile phones.
Other affected states include Delta (eight suspects), Kano (seven), Kaduna and Rivers (six each), and Ebonyi and Enugu (five each), mostly linked to impersonation and use of unauthorized electronic devices.
One unusual case involved a blind candidate who hired another visually impaired undergraduate to impersonate him during the test.
JAMB says it is working closely with law enforcement agencies to prosecute offenders and curb examination malpractice in future tests.
