JAMB plans Canada UTME centre for Nigerians from 2027
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to establish a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, to enable Nigerians in the country and other parts of North America to sit for the examination from 2027.
The board disclosed this on Monday following a visit by its registrar, Prof. Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa, Canada.
JAMB said the proposed centre would provide eligible Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America with easier access to the UTME, particularly those seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
According to the board, the initiative would eliminate the need for Nigerians in the diaspora to travel to Nigeria solely to sit for the examination, thereby reducing barriers to accessing tertiary education in the country.
JAMB said the Ottawa centre was part of its efforts to take Nigerian tertiary education to the global community and strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the country’s education system.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said, adding that the initiative would create greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally.
The board said it was working towards establishing the centre, which is expected to commence operations in 2027 and would serve eligible Nigerians in Canada and across North America.
JAMB added that the initiative would provide greater access to the UTME and create more opportunities for Nigerians abroad seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
