Aiyedatiwa bags FG award for education development

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has been honoured by the Federal Government for his administration’s interventions in the education sector.
Aiyedatiwa received the recognition on Monday during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja, where the Federal Ministry of Education acknowledged his contributions to education development.
The governor dedicated the award to teachers across Ondo State, saying their commitment and sacrifices remained critical to the development of the state. He also recalled his experience as a teacher, describing it as an experience that shaped his understanding of education and governance.
Aiyedatiwa said his administration had prioritised education under its seven-point OUR EASE agenda, with emphasis on improving access, school infrastructure, teaching quality and the welfare of education workers.
He disclosed that more than 2,100 teachers were recruited in 2025, while 43 classroom blocks were constructed and 75 schools renovated. He added that thousands of students and teachers received furniture, textbooks, sports equipment and other learning materials.
The governor further said the state spent N633.9 million to register 23,048 public school students for the 2026 WAEC examination, while N350 million and N400 million were allocated for bursaries and scholarships in 2025 and 2026 respectively.
He also announced the approval of a College of Nursing in Igbokoda and a College of Education in Aboto, alongside efforts to expand digital learning through the provision of devices, teacher training and emerging technology programmes.
Aiyedatiwa called for sustained investment in teachers, stressing that improved welfare, adequate teaching resources, professional development and a conducive working environment were essential to building a strong education system.
