The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers across the state to commemorate this year’s Nigeria Union of Teachers Day.
The declaration was contained in a circular issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, on Sunday.
The state government said the gesture underscored its commitment to the welfare, dignity and professional development of teachers across Oyo State.
It described teachers as the backbone of the state’s education system and key drivers of human capital development.
According to the government, the work-free day would enable teachers to participate fully in activities organised to mark NUT Day across the state.
It added that the break would also provide teachers with an opportunity to reflect on developments in the education sector and strengthen unity among members of the teaching profession.
The government congratulated teachers on the occasion and acknowledged their contributions to the development of education and human capital in Oyo State.
It reaffirmed its commitment to implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning across the state, while promoting the welfare and professional development of teachers.
