The Ekiti State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for teachers in public schools across the state to enable them participate in activities marking World Teachers’ Day.
The decision means day students in public schools will remain at home on Monday while teachers attend programmes organised to commemorate the occasion.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Olabimpe Aderiye, announced the decision in a statement issued on Thursday, urging parents, guardians, school administrators and students to take note of the arrangement.
Aderiye said the gesture was intended to give teachers adequate opportunity to join other education stakeholders in celebrating the profession and reflecting on their contributions to society.
She commended teachers across the state for their commitment to their duties, noting their role in educating and mentoring younger generations.
The commissioner said the government recognised teachers’ contributions to the development of the state’s education system and assured them of its continued support and appreciation.
Aderiye congratulated teachers on the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration and urged them to sustain their commitment to raising well-educated and responsible children.
She wished the teachers a successful celebration as Ekiti joins other parts of the world in honouring the teaching profession and its contribution to society.
