The Oyo State Government has approved the commencement of online registration for the 2025/2026 General Bursary Awards for final-year students of Oyo State origin in public higher institutions across Nigeria.

The Secretary of the Oyo State Scholarship Board, Niyi Akinyanju, disclosed this on Monday, October 5, 2026, while speaking with journalists in his office.

Akinyanju said the government had also approved the inclusion of final-year students of colleges of education in the General Bursary Awards scheme.

He explained that students in the category had previously been excluded from the bursary programme since its inception but would now formally benefit from the state’s educational financial assistance initiative.

According to him, the expansion represents a significant extension of the bursary intervention, allowing more final-year students across different categories of public higher institutions to benefit from the programme.

Akinyanju added that the initiative was designed to provide additional financial support to eligible students as they complete their academic programmes and meet the increased financial demands associated with their final year of study.

The Oyo State Scholarship Board is expected to release details of the online registration process, eligibility requirements, required documentation and commencement date in due course, while prospective beneficiaries have been advised to monitor official communications from the government and the board and rely only on information released through authorised channels.

Earlier in the year, the Oyo State Government approved a payment of ₦500,000 to each law student of Oyo State origin at the Nigerian Law School, reportedly making it the highest such intervention among states in the South-West.
