BATKORRECT takes ‘Behind The Streets’ to Lagos schools

BATKORRECT, a socio-political group of Lagos-based professionals, has distributed copies of Behind The Streets (Inside the World of Personalities Popular Lagos Streets are Named After) to secondary schools across Lagos State as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The initiative followed book-reading sessions held across three educational districts of the state, anchored by the author, Adeshina Oyetayo, Special Adviser on Research, Media and Documentation to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

The book, dedicated to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, examines the lives and legacies of personalities whose names have been immortalised through prominent streets and areas in Lagos.

Speaking at a reading session at Mainland High School, Yaba, BATKORRECT Coordinator, Victor Ganzallo, said the group partnered with Oyetayo to make the book accessible to secondary school students, particularly following the reintroduction of History into the school curriculum.

“With the reintroduction of History into the school curriculum, students now have an opportunity to learn about these important personalities and their lasting impact on society through Oyetayo’s carefully researched work,” Ganzallo said.

He said the group hoped the book would help young Nigerians appreciate the contributions and sacrifices of personalities whose names have become part of Lagos’ history.

BATKORRECT Publicity Secretary, Princess Aminat Elegushi, described the exercise as part of the group’s community development and educational outreach programmes.

She said the initiative was also aimed at promoting awareness of environmental sanitation and protection, adding that the group had recently distributed cooking gas to vulnerable households across the state.
