Osun 2026: Omisore weighs his options

Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and governorship aspirant in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, is working on his next move following his disqualification from the governorship contest.
A credible source told WESTERN POST the former deputy governor and his supporters are carefully weighing the options before them to arrive at a decision on his next political move.
According to the source, the first option on the table is to remain in the party to give room for reconciliation. If adopted, the decision could galvanise support for the APC flag bearer and boost the chances of the party in the forthcoming election.
Secondly, Omisore is also said to be weighing the possibility of declaring and rallying support for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke. Such a move would have serious implications for the APC and could enhance the second-term ambition of the incumbent in the August 2026 election.
The Ife-born politician may defect to another political party to actualise his governorship ambition.
The development followed the APC Screening Committee led by Chief Obinna Uzoh, Esq., which disqualified seven aspirants, including Senator Omisore, from participating in the party’s upcoming governorship primary to be held on the 13th of December, 2025.
The committee claims that Senator Omisore and six other aspirants, Babatunde Haketer Oralusi, Oyedotun Babayemi, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, Benedict Alabi, Adegoke Rasheed Okiki, and Senator Babajide Omoworare, failed to present proof of sponsorship from a minimum of five fully registered and financially stable party members from each Osun State local government area in line with the APC Constitution.
However, two aspirants, Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and Mulikat Abiola Jimoh, received the nod to contest.
One of the political gladiators in Osun politics, Senator Omisore was widely viewed as one of the strong contenders for the APC governorship ticket.
However, his next line of action may influence the political developments in Osun State in the coming months.
