Osun 2026: Oyebamiji urges calm as collation begins
The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, has urged voters and his supporters to remain calm and vigilant as the collation of results from Saturday’s governorship election begins.
Oyebamiji, in a post on his X account on Saturday, thanked the people of Osun State for turning out in large numbers to exercise their civic responsibility and cast their votes.
He also commended the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for what he described as their commitment to duty, professionalism and integrity during the election.
As results began to emerge from polling units across the state, the APC candidate urged his supporters to remain peaceful while ensuring that the votes cast by the electorate were protected.
“As the collation of results begins, I urge all our supporters and the good people of Osun to remain calm, vigilant and resolute. Let us protect the sanctity of the votes cast by our people,” Oyebamiji said.
He warned against any attempt to undermine the outcome of the election, urging voters not to allow anyone to subvert what he described as the will of the people.
“We have come too far to allow our collective efforts to be compromised. Let us remain peaceful, watchful and confident as we await the final outcome. May the will of the people prevail,” he added.
The Osun governorship election was held across the state’s 30 local government areas, 332 wards and 3,763 polling units. INEC cleared 15 candidates for the election, but the contest has largely been viewed as a three-way race between incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate Najeem Salaam.
