Osun 2026: UK-based group urges APC to field Oyebamiji for governor
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
A socio-political group, AMBO Movement, United Kingdom, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State to adopt Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), as its governorship candidate for the 2026 election.
In a letter dated July 24, 2025, and signed by the group’s Coordinator, Alhaji Mayowa Olabisi, the group described Oyebamiji as a proven leader in financial management and public service. The letter, addressed to APC State Chairman Tajudeen Lawal, was delivered by former commissioner Adebayo Adeleke and copied to Chief Bisi Akande, Minister Adegboyega Oyetola, Senator Ajibola Basiru, and the APC Elders’ Caucus.
The group stated that under Oyebamiji’s leadership, Osun witnessed improved financial practices and strategic investment during his tenure as Commissioner for Finance and head of the Osun State Investment Company Limited (OSICOL).
“Oyebamiji transformed OSICOL from a moribund institution into a profitable entity, demonstrating transparency, innovation, and fiscal discipline,” Olabisi said. “His performance reflects the kind of competent leadership Osun needs now.”
The group highlighted his achievements at NIWA, including the acquisition of 15 boats—surveillance boats, passenger boats, water ambulances, and hydrographic survey boats with advanced technology. These, they said, have improved safety and efficiency in water transport.
They also noted the launch of the Water Marshal Corps Scheme, which helped reduce boat accidents by 30% in 2024. His focus on staff welfare, safety, and implementation of the Water Transportation Code were also praised.
Olabisi stressed the importance of presenting a candidate with proven financial acumen to steer Osun towards economic prosperity.
The group pledged diaspora financial and logistical support to back Oyebamiji’s candidacy, describing him as a grassroots favourite who embodies the APC’s core values of integrity, service, and visionary leadership.
