Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to the welfare of pensioners, highlighting significant strides in pension management and payment over the past two years.
Speaking during the distribution of bond cheques worth N1,999,908,887.33 for both state and local government pensioners, Adeleke underscored his commitment to ensuring pensioners are treated with dignity and their entitlements processed promptly. The event was part of activities marking the second anniversary of his administration.
Adeleke disclosed that his government has paid a total of N22.6 billion to state pensioners and N25 billion to local government pensioners, amounting to over N47 billion in two years. He noted that this figure represents nearly 70% of what the previous All Progressives Congress (APC) administration paid over a 12-year period.
Providing a breakdown of previous administrations’ payments, Adeleke stated:
Former Governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration disbursed a total of N17,152,662,351.26 as of 2018.
Former Governor Gboyega Oyetola’s administration paid N17,255,424,708.51 by 2022.
He added, “The total amount paid by the two previous administrations over 12 years was N34,408,087,059.77. In contrast, our administration has paid over N47 billion in just two years, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to pensioners’ welfare.”
Adeleke acknowledged ongoing challenges in the pension sector and pledged to address them. He directed the Head of Service to compile a comprehensive list of unresolved issues to ensure focused government intervention.
“Other outstanding issues in the pension sector will be addressed. The Head of Service is tasked with identifying areas requiring attention so our government can adequately respond to pensioners’ needs,” the Governor assured.
