Ondo/Ekiti Customs pledge commitment to business-friendly reforms

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Ondo/Ekiti Area Command has reiterated its commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment to enhance trade facilitation and promote economic growth.

This pledge was reaffirmed by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Morenikeji Bewaji, during a meeting with delegates from the Africa Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria (APFFLON) at the Command’s headquarters in Akure on Monday, November 18, 2024.

According to a press statement issued on November 23, 2024, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Herbert Dzungwenen, Comptroller Bewaji lauded APFFLON’s contributions to Nigeria’s supply chain and logistics sector.

She described freight forwarders as essential partners in achieving seamless trade facilitation and advancing the country’s global economic objectives.

“The association has been a formidable partner to the Nigeria Customs Service, and this dialogue further strengthens our shared commitment to streamlining trade processes and ensuring compliance with international standards,” she stated.

Comptroller Bewaji outlined several initiatives undertaken by the Command to support the federal government’s Ease of Doing Business agenda. These include:

Regular consultations with trade ecosystem stakeholders to address challenges and foster collaboration.

Continuous training for Customs officers and stakeholders to improve efficiency.

Publishing clear guidelines to eliminate uncertainties in trade operations.

She urged stakeholders to prioritize training, innovation, and efficiency to build a competitive trading environment. In addition, she assured the APFFLON delegation of the Command’s unwavering support in creating a conducive atmosphere for trade and investment.

Earlier, APFFLON’s National President, Otunba Frank Ogunojemite, emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between Customs and freight forwarders to remove trade barriers and boost economic growth.

He stressed that partnerships are crucial to driving trade facilitation and achieving mutual goals.
