Osun APC alleges N300m fraud cover-up, Adeleke Government denies claim

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration of allegedly covering up a N300 million fraud involving a female Permanent Secretary said to be the wife of a serving commissioner.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC alleged that the Adeleke-led government was condoning and shielding high-level corruption while protecting politically connected officials from prosecution.
According to the opposition party, some political functionaries have taken undue advantage of what it described as the governor’s administrative weakness to loot their ministries and departments.
“We demand to know what could have been the reason for the Adeleke administration, which falsely professes accountability and rule of law, to shield a female Permanent Secretary who was caught embezzling over N300 million in government funds,” the APC stated.
The party further alleged that the government had quietly arranged for the official to refund the money and urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the police to investigate the matter. It added that “covering up corruption involving the wife of a cabinet member is an indelible stain on the administration of Governor Adeleke.”
However, in a swift response, the Osun State Government denied the allegation, insisting that there was no N300 million scandal in any ministry or agency of the state. It accused the APC of fabricating falsehood and fake news to distract from its dwindling popularity among Osun residents.
In a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, the government maintained that the Adeleke administration operates under a procurement law with strict approval thresholds and due process, making it impossible for any single official to handle such large sums.
Rasheed said, “Aside from approval limits and the tendering process, the procurement system has strict oversight and compliance procedures under which no such corruption could occur. The allegation is a reprehensible lie from the pit of hell. Governor Adeleke is a transparent and accountable leader who will never tolerate corruption or shield any official. No amount of fake news can change the reality that the APC and its aspirants are unelectable ahead of the 2026 election.”
