Osun APC questions governor’s whereabouts, aide confirms U.S. trip

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded an explanation on the whereabouts of Governor Ademola Adeleke, alleging that he has been absent from the state for over two weeks without formally informing citizens.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the party claimed the governor left the state quietly after failing in an alleged bid to defect to the APC. Olabisi said it was “absolutely wrong” for Adeleke to “sneak out of the Government House for an undisclosed destination without informing the people.”
Olabisi recalled a similar incident last year when Adeleke’s location was unclear amid conflicting reports that he was in the U.S. or U.K., until it was later revealed that he had travelled to Thailand for medical reasons.
The APC spokesperson questioned whether the governor had formally handed over to his deputy as required by the constitution and raised concerns over the cost of such trips. He alleged that Adeleke had spent ₦3.1 billion on local and foreign trips in the first half of 2025 “without anything to show for the benefit of the state.”
In response, the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that Adeleke is in the United States for the wedding of his nephew, music star David Adeleke (Davido).
Rasheed said the governor travelled a few days ago via the family’s private jet and had not taken any formal vacation since assuming office in November 2022. He described the trip as a short personal break.
The spokesperson stressed that the governor remains in constant communication with his deputy, Prince Kola Adewusi, who is supervising state affairs during his absence.
Rasheed also invited APC members to attend the wedding if they wished, saying the event was a family celebration and not a state matter.
