Court remands five over alleged rape, kidnapping in Ondo

A Chief Magistrate Court in Akure has ordered the remand of five persons over allegations of kidnapping, rape, and armed robbery in the Akoko axis of Ondo State.
The suspects — Saliu Usman, Yao Yisa, Abu Ali, Ibrahim Muhammed, and Musa Abdukareem — were apprehended by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps. They were committed to the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending advice from the state’s Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
They were arraigned on seven counts bordering on criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, and unlawful possession of firearms. The prosecution, led by O.F. Akeredolu, alleged the offences were committed at various times between July 9 and July 13, 2025, across several communities in Akoko South West Local Government Area.
Akeredolu told the court that on July 13, at about 12:03 a.m., the defendants and others still at large attacked two women at Oba Akoko Farm, Ayegunle axis.
The assailants, allegedly armed with dangerous weapons, reportedly raped the victims and dispossessed them of valuables, including ₦225,000, two mobile phones, an MP3 player, and 10 litres of palm oil.
The prosecution further alleged that the suspects engaged in other acts of kidnapping and robbery during the period under investigation.
Magistrate Damilola Sekoni ordered their remand at the Olokuta Correctional Facility in Akure pending further proceedings.
