Osun APC raises alarm over killings, demands stronger security

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised concern over what it described as the rising rate of extrajudicial killings in Osogbo, the state capital, and other parts of the state.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, on Saturday, the party said the expectation that the conclusion of the August 15, 2026, governorship election would bring an end to the killings had not been realised.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Governor Ademola Adeleke the winner of the election, but the APC said reports of killings had continued, describing the development as worrisome.

The party said the situation had created a negative image for Osun, adding that persistent reports of violence could discourage people from other states from visiting or doing business in the state.

It also expressed concern over a reported attack on Friday in the Owo-Eba area, near Ilesa Garage in Osogbo, where two people were reportedly killed by unidentified hoodlums armed with guns, machetes, knives and cudgels.

The APC sympathised with residents affected by the violence and accused individuals involved in the attacks of turning the state into what it described as a jungle where might prevails over the rule of law.

Furthermore, the party called on the Adeleke-led administration to protect lives and property, saying the continued insecurity was inconsistent with the constitutional responsibility of government to safeguard residents.

The APC also urged the police and other security agencies to intensify efforts to prevent further killings and ensure the safety of residents, stressing that there should be no acceptable excuse for failure to protect lives and property.
