FG to hold quarterly dialogue with civil society groups

The federal government is to establish a quarterly policy dialogue with civil society organisations (CSOs) as part of efforts to strengthen accountability and ensure citizens’ concerns are reflected in government policies.
President Bola Tinubu announced the initiative on Friday at the 2026 National Civil Society Organisations Summit in Abuja, where he unveiled four commitments aimed at deepening cooperation between the government and civil society.
Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, at the summit held at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, Tinubu directed Akume to establish the forum.
He said the platform would promote evidence-based engagement and enable community perspectives to shape policy formulation, implementation and evaluation.
The President said the Federal Government was moving beyond the difficult phase of economic reforms towards an agenda centred on prosperity, social inclusion and rebuilding public trust.
“Four years down the line, we wish to modestly assure Nigerians that Nigeria is moving from reform to prosperity,” he said.
Tinubu acknowledged the difficulties caused by the economic reforms introduced by his administration in 2023, but said the government was now focused on translating their gains into inclusive growth and stronger accountability.
He said the Federal Government would also collaborate with accredited CSOs to expand civic participation in public finance transparency, budget monitoring and the oversight of humanitarian interventions.
