Osun APC slams Adeleke for deploying Imole Youth Corps to schools

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over the deployment of 1,750 Imole Youth Corps members to public primary and secondary schools across the state, describing the move as a setback for the education sector and a betrayal of public trust.
In a statement issued in Osogbo by the APC Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party accused the governor of replacing the recruitment of qualified teachers with what it termed “untrained ad hoc staff,” describing the action as evidence of poor governance and lack of direction.
Olabisi argued that Adeleke’s justification—citing financial constraints for not hiring permanent teachers—revealed misplaced priorities. He questioned how the same government claiming to lack funds for education was funding the construction of flyovers, purchasing expensive vehicles, and sustaining what he described as a “lavish lifestyle” at the Government House.
“It defies logic,” Olabisi said, “that a government constructing five flyovers and buying multi-million-naira vehicles for cabinet members would turn around to post 1,750 untrained teachers to public schools in the state.”
He added that the move was proof that the governor had lost focus and lacked the capacity to manage a complex state like Osun, urging him to reconsider the implications of his decisions on the education sector.
The APC also decried the abandonment of thousands of teacher applicants who had gone through interviews and paid for application forms in anticipation of employment but were now left in limbo.
“What happens to the teacher applicants who were interviewed and had paid for forms? What about the millions of naira collected from them?” the party asked.
The APC called on Governor Adeleke to apologise to parents, students, and voters, and demanded his resignation, accusing him of failing to fulfill his electoral promises.
