Osun APC slams Govt over CBN’s request for court document

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has criticised the state government over its reaction to a request by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for a Certified True Copy (CTC) of a court judgment related to the ongoing local government leadership crisis and the reinstatement of elected chairmen.

The APC stated that the CBN’s correspondence, which requested a copy of the Court of Appeal judgment delivered on February 10, 2025, was merely an administrative step to review the party’s request for fiscal control at the local council level and should not be misinterpreted as a rejection.

In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party accused the state government of misrepresenting the CBN’s request as a setback for the reinstated APC chairmen.

Olabisi maintained that the party had already submitted all necessary documents to the apex bank and expressed confidence in the CBN’s professionalism in handling the matter.

The statement partly reads: “Specifically, the apex bank requested that we should avail them of the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgment of the appellate court dated February 10th, 2025, to enable them to review the request of our reinstated chairmen and respond appropriately.

“This simple administrative request for clarity is what some nattering nitwits are celebrating on social media as though our request has been turned down. While all the required documents were initially submitted along with the letter to the CBN, we nevertheless commend the leadership of the bank for prioritising the rule of law in the ongoing efforts by the reinstated local government council chairmen and councillors to resolve the statutory aspect of the political logjam in Osun State.”

The APC further praised the CBN for adhering to due process in the review of fiscal documentation related to local government operations.

“We are aware of the desperation of some officials in the state government to, as they did with some judges and judiciary workers in Osun State, bribe and compromise certain amenable officers of the CBN with hefty sums drawn from the state’s coffers. However, we are delighted that the leadership of the bank has remained professional and patriotic by resisting such pressure and rejecting attempts to tarnish the corporate image of the bank for personal and pecuniary gains,” the statement added.
