FG launches Sections 3A & 3B of Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Cross River

The Federal Government has flagged off Sections 3A and 3B of the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway in Cross River State, marking a major milestone in one of Nigeria’s largest infrastructure projects. The launch event took place on Monday, April 14, 2025, in Calabar, and was led by the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Senator Umahi described the project as more than just a road, calling it a symbol of progress, unity, and economic revival for Nigeria. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to completing the highway on schedule, emphasizing its potential to enhance trade, tourism, and development across eight coastal states.

Commending the efforts of Hitech Construction Ltd., the project’s contractor, Umahi praised the use of innovative concrete pavement technology designed to ensure the road’s durability and long-term value. He also stressed the importance of transparency and efficiency in project execution.

Speaking on behalf of President Tinubu, Cross River State Governor Prince Bassey Otu expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for initiating the transformative project in a region that has long been underserved. He said the highway would significantly boost connectivity and economic opportunities for the people of Cross River State.

Minister of State for Works, Bello M. Goronyo, also addressed the gathering, noting that the highway reflects the fulfilment of President Tinubu’s campaign promises. He emphasized the collaboration between federal and state governments and thanked local communities for their support and cooperation.

Hitech’s representative, Mr. Danny Aboud, reassured attendees of the company’s readiness to deliver a high-quality road. He noted the project’s positive impact on job creation and local business engagement, which will, in turn, promote regional economic growth.

Cross River State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Pius Edet Ankpo, lauded the Federal Government’s commitment to development in the state. He appealed for renewed attention to other federal road projects in the region, including the Ikom–Odukpani and Calabar–Itu roads, which he said were also critical to the state’s growth.

Other prominent figures, including Prof. Eyo Etim Nyong, Senator Eteng Williams, Senator Ita Giwa, and Hon. Gift Johnbull, echoed their support for the highway project. They described it as a game-changer for the South-South and commended the Tinubu administration for its vision and investment in long-term development.
