Osun Assembly disowns chairmanship ‘rotation’ claim on traditional rulers

By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Osun State House of Assembly has disowned a social media claim alleging that the Speaker, Hon. Adewale Egbedun, received or authorised a letter on the rotation of chairmanship among traditional rulers in the state.
The Assembly, in a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Olamide Tiamiyu, on Monday, said the publication, circulated by a pseudo Facebook page operating under the name “Ashiwaju Omo Yoruba,” was false, misleading and entirely fabricated.
Tiamiyu stressed that no such letter was ever received, authorised or acknowledged by the Speaker, adding that the issue of rotation among traditional rulers was never presented before the House or its Committee on Chieftaincy Matters.
He accused the pseudo Facebook page of deliberate mischief and described the publication as an attempt to mislead the public, provoke unnecessary tension and undermine the credibility of the Assembly by exploiting sensitive traditional and cultural issues for ulterior motives.
The statement said the Speaker strongly condemned the action and reiterated that the Assembly conducts its affairs strictly in line with constitutional provisions and established legislative procedures.
Members of the public, particularly residents of Osun State, were therefore urged to completely disregard the publication and rely only on statements issued through the official and verified channels of the Osun State House of Assembly.
The Speaker reaffirmed his commitment to truth, transparency and the protection of the integrity of the House against misinformation and malicious falsehoods.
